I Had a Bad Dream Last Night

PapelbonI had a really bad dream last night, the Red Sox had lost and the Yankees had won bringing the lead down to 1 1/2 games. Unfortunately when I opened the newspaper, I quickly realized that it wasn’t a dream….could this be happening? Papelbon giving up a grand slam? I’m not blaming him for the loss and subsequent close race, but he’s our go-to guy! He wins and saves games for us! What’s happening to the Sox?  Of course, there’s still hope and I haven’t given up…not by a long shot!

Last night we had the "Meet the 10 Candidates" event, which went really well. It was nice to meet the other candidates who were able to fit the event into their busy schedules. I wanted to write about a few things I said last night that I’d like to do for the Nation.

  1. Have more giveaways for fans (thanks Dennis). Many teams do this and it’s a great thrill to get something to bring home after a day at Fenway. It wouldn’t cost the team anything if we had a corporation sponsor the gift. It could be a hat, flag, bobblehead, whatever! Fans are happy, the company gets the good will benefit and all at no cost to the Sox. Win-Win-Win.
  2. Let fans into the game for free after the 7th inning (thanks Robbin). We’ve all seen fans leave early either because we’re losing by a lot or winning by a lot or some other crazy reason. In the past, the Red Sox let fans in and I’d like to see that happen again. This will benefit those who can’t afford tickets or those who simply can’t get tickets due to the demand. Who knows, they may witness a great Big Papi walk off home run, come from behind win!
  3. I’d like to see Lansdown Street closed down. Not only is it dangerous with so many people and cars driving down the street, but it’s a great opportunity to improve the fan experience. We can close it down and sell food and drinks, offer games and face painting for kids and play some upbeat music.  Many fans only make it to one game each year and it’s our duty to make that experience as memorable as possible!

That’s it for now. Keep the suggestions coming!

Cindy, I agree with closing down Landsdown Street. If it were closed, it would make it so much for festive – for everyone – not just those attending the game.

    Cindy,

You know how I feel about that dream – I was awake through the whole thing though. Your idea about closing down Lansdown Street is brilliant! The activities would be a huge draw. Also, I lived eons ago in Pittsburgh and attended a lot of Pirates games (during their BB era) after the seventh as you suggest now for the Sox. It was a great. Sometimes I had the money to buy a ticket and sometimes I didn’t. I saw a lot of games in that stadium and even though they weren’t my home team, it made me a fan. Do it!

Cindy, I have the BEST idea for you after you win. “A DUCK BOAT PARADE AROUND LONG ISLAND!!!!” Of course, it would help if the sox do their part and win.

Cindy, your ideas for better fan participation and fan appreciation are great! The fan support is what makes the Sox so beloved and the happier the fans the faster the Nation will grow! Good luck! You’ll make a GREAT President!

I seriously questioned your somewhat overly optimistic 7-3 finish for the Sox. I would have predicted just about the opposite, being the eternal pessimist that I am. Everything seems to be unraveling at the wrong time. The Sox are probably in the process of setting a League record for the most men left on base, especially with runners in scoring position. Oh well, we’ll always have October. Best of luck for President of Red Sox Nation!!

Cindy – I like your idea of closing down Landsdown Street and making it more festive for families and those who only attend one or two games a year. Attending a game at Fenway is truly and experience and this would make it more so.

Cindy–Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I was a newly-minted Red Sox fan, they used to let fans into the ball park during the seventh inning, and they used to let those of us who paid 75 cents for right field grandstand tickets go sit in the box seats after the seventh inning. But that was before all the games sold out. Now I can’t even buy tickets, let alone get one for 75 cents (you had to be under 18 for that bargain, by the way–the tickets were NOT available at Filene’s Basement–LOL). I was only able to get tickets for one game this year–September 10 against Tampa Bay. I ordered them on the day they became available through Red Sox Nation. How would you approach this issue?
